Sibu folk urged to remain alert for floods

THE public in Sibu, Sarawak, are urged to remain alert for floods in the coming months.

Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) chairman Clarence Ting (pic) emphasised the importance of preparedness, and said a key measure was to ensure all road markers were clearly placed, particularly in low-lying areas.

“This will help maintain safe driving conditions even when there is standing water on the roads,” Ting said at the municipal council’s full board meeting.

He said these preparations were especially crucial for January and February, traditionally the wettest months in Sibu.

Separately, he reported that there were a total of 692 dog bite cases in the municipality from January to November 2025.

He said a total of 1,037 animals were caught during that period by SMC’s dog catching team.

“We are still receiving complaints from the public about the presence of a high number of dogs roaming around, especially at Medan Mall shopping complex in Jalan Wong King Huo,” said Ting.

“We need to look into it.”
