Contingent registrations for Malaysian Games to begin on Jan 3, says exco man

REGISTRATION for all contingents taking part in the Malaysian Games (Sukma) will begin on Saturday (Jan 3), says Selangor state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi.

“They will make their entries through the game management system (GMS), an integrated IT system to automate and manage the registration of athletes for Sukma 2026, which will have 474 events across 37 sports.

“The deadline is February 13. This will give the teams about one and a half months to settle their affairs,” he said at the soft launch of the Selangor Havoc Raya Fest, which will take place at Setia City Convention Centre in March next year.

Najwan added that he and the organising committee would be going on a nationwide trip to visit all the states participating in Sukma starting next month until April.

The official visits, he said, are a Sukma tradition where official invitation letters by the host state are handed to the sports councils from the various participating states.

“The trip will include Sabah and Sarawak as well as Brunei, for whom we are awaiting an official confirmation from its Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry,” he said.

Selangor is the host for Sukma 2026, which will take place in August.

Meanwhile, Najwan said the upgrades of the sporting venues are 85% completed.

Venues currently undergoing upgrades include the Darul Ehsan Aquatic Centre in Shah Alam, the Subang Shooting Range and the Pandamaran Hockey Stadium in Klang.

The total cost of hosting Sukma is estimated at RM200 million.

Preparation for competition equipment is close to 70% complete, with the remaining still at a negotiation stage.

The official website for Sukma, as well as Para Sukma – also to be hosted by Selangor from 5 September till 14 September – will be launched in January.
