KUALA LUMPUR: Residents affected by the collapse of a retaining wall in Taman United, Kuala Lumpur, will only be allowed to return home once it is deemed safe.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said a geotechnical consultant will be conducting a soil investigation of the area, following the incident on Monday (Nov 24) morning.

“They will prepare a geotechnical report to assess the slope’s safety.

“Affected residents will only be allowed to return to their homes after the report confirms that the slope is safe,” DBKL said in a statement on Wednesday (Nov 26).

It added that slope repair works will begin in three to four days, depending on weather conditions.

DBKL added that cleaning works were actively underway after the retaining structure failure on Jalan Sepadu 7, including the removal of small stones and large boulders.

“DBKL remains committed to ensuring residents’ safety and will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action until it is fully restored.”

Following the Nov 24 incident, residents from 104 units at the Taman United flats were instructed to evacuate as a safety precaution.
