THE 8th Sarawak International 4×4 Jamboree 2025 has been hailed as a major event that not only tested participants’ physical and mental endurance, but also served to strengthen unity and friendship between local and international communities.
Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said the extreme sports event had successfully brought together more than 500 participants and over 200 four-wheel drive vehicles from within the country and abroad.
“This is not just a competition, but also an occasion that highlights the spirit of unity and a close bond between people and nature.
“With its magnificent tropical forests, mountain ranges and rivers, Sarawak is undoubtedly the ideal location for such a world-class event,” he said.
Tiong’s speech was read out by Joshua Ting Fung Ying, who is the political secretary to Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg, at the jamboree’s flag-off ceremony in front of the Azman Hashim Community Sports Centre in Sibu.
Tiong added that the event also served as a showcase of Sarawak’s cultural diversity, natural beauty and warmth of its people, qualities long associated with the state.
“Such events bring tangible benefits to the local economy, empowering small and medium- sized enterprises (SMEs) and creating opportunities for homestay operators, food vendors, handicraft makers and transport providers, particularly in rural areas.
“We are not only promoting Sarawak, but also connecting tourism with infrastructure development, rural empowerment and economic opportunities, in line with the aspirations of the Madani government.”
Tiong expressed pride in the participation of international teams, which he said not only enhanced Malaysia’s image as an adventure tourism destination, but also built bridges of friendship across nations and cultures.
The five-day jamboree was organised by the Sarawak 4×4 Travel and Adventure Club (Sakta).
Also present at the ceremony were Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat Jubin, Sibu Rural District Council chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, PETRONAS Lubricants Marketing (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd representative Jennifer Ang and Sakta chairman Jirram Gima.
