Action against seven illegal car workshops in Klang

FOUR unlicensed car spray-painting workshops in Bandar Bukit Tinggi 2 (BBT2) were fined RM4,250, and three others run by foreign workers had their machinery seized in a Klang Royal City Council (MBDK) operation.

The four workshops were fined RM1,000 each, said MBDK Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz.

“One was slapped with an additional RM250 compound for occupying the five-foot-way.

“The three unlicensed businesses operated by foreign nationals had their equipment seized,” she said.

The RM1,000 fines were issued under the Licensing, Trade, Business and Industry (MBDK) By-Laws 2007.

The city council also took action under Section 46(1)(d) of the Street, Drainage and Building Act 1974 which prohibits obstruction in public spaces.

Norfiza said initial investigations on three unlicensed outlets found that they were owned by Malaysians but the workers were foreign nationals without work permits.

On the operation, she said, MBDK’s Licensing and Enforcement Departments carried out random checks at 29 car spray painting workshops in the vicinity of Jalan Batu Nilam in BBT2 based on their business licence registration.

“MBDK Enforcement personnel found that 16 car workshops had ceased operations.

“Six had valid licences while seven were unlicensed.”
