PRESS members and their immediate family members with a flair for the performing arts are invited to participate in the “Stark Cup Penang Press Talent Showcase 2025”.

Scheduled for May 24 at the Penang Hui Yin Seh Buddhist Society, the event aims to showcase a wide range of talents, from singing, dancing, and impersonation to instrumental and group performances.

Organised by Penang Press Club (PPC), with Stark Development Sdn Bhd as the primary sponsor and Penang Hui Yin Seh Buddhist Society as co-organiser, the showcase offers RM5,000 in cash prizes.

The top three winners will receive RM1,000, RM800 and RM500 respectively.

There will also be 10 consolation prizes and awards for Most Popular Performance and Best Costume.

Penang Press Club president Ang Tong Kai expressed hope that the event, last held in 2019, would encourage greater interaction among journalists and strengthen unity within the media industry.

“This is not just a talent showcase, but also an opportunity for media professionals to connect more closely with the public. We welcome more media practitioners, media-related agency staff and interested parties to join us,” he said.

Stark Development Sdn Bhd deputy chairman Datuk Toh Chin Leong noted the important role of journalists in chronicling the times.

“We support this event as it gives media professionals a platform to express their diverse talents beyond journalism,” he said.

Penang Hui Yin Seh Society chairperson Khiah Hock Leong shared a similar sentiment.

“Every media person has an artistic soul. This event lets them step out from behind the scenes and show the public a different side of who they are,” he said.

Event organising committee chairman Pek Bee Hong said the audience is welcome to enter the venue to enjoy the performances, and that both Stark Development Sdn Bhd and Penang Hui Yin Seh Society would each send three representatives to participate, further adding excitement to the show.

Registration closes on Monday, May 19.
