Temple relocation talks going smoothly, says Batu MP

AN ELECTED representative in Kuala Lumpur has given his assurance that the controversy involving Dewi Sri Pathrakaliamman Temple in Jalan Masjid India, Kuala Lumpur, will be resolved peacefully.

Batu MP P. Prabakaran (pic) said he had been tasked by Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Dr Zaliha Mustafa to engage with the temple management to find a workable solution.

"She asked me to look into the issue as I am the sole Indian elected representative in Kuala Lumpur," he said when met at a buka puasa event at Masjid Saidina Hamzah in Sentul on Friday (March 21) night.

"The discussion has been ongoing since the past eight months and it is progressing very smoothly," he said.

Prabakaran also noted that several potential locations had been identified for the temple's relocation.

Asked if any solution had been identified, he said he was not at liberty to announce it yet.

"We ask that people give us time and especially for the Hindu community to give us space to do our job," he added.

Prabarakan also stressed that the issue was not about religion but about the legality and ownership of the land concerned.

"Let's be careful with our words and know all the facts before making a statement about the issue," he said further.

On Thursday (March 20), media reported that discussion on the temple relocation was ongoing between the management and Jakel Group, who is the landowner.

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif had said that the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) would facilitate engagements.
