A BEAUTY salon in Johor Baru offering hair removal packages was ordered to refund RM4,161.74 to a customer who was unhappy with its services.
Property negotiator Nicole Tan, who had bought a package of 34 treatments, decided to discontinue body hair removal services after attending just four sessions.
She cited the salon’s failure to honour promises as among reasons for her decision.
She was also dissatisfied with having to wait for services offered by the salon, catering to women seeking laser hair removal treatments.
“The beauty consultants had convinced me that priority would be given to customers who signed up for treatment sessions,” she said when met outside the Johor Consumer Claims Tribunal at Menara Ansar in Johor Baru.
The 34-year-old from Taman Bukit Indah had paid RM5,000 to remove hair on her arms and legs.
The payment was made to the salon in Taman Sutera Utama, Johor Baru on Dec 28, 2023.
“I had to call them first before they would give me the available treatment slots,” said Tan who had gone for the first treatment on Jan 2, 2024.
The second, third and fourth sessions had taken place on Jan 19, Feb 7, and March 3, 2024, respectively.
“Each session lasted for about 30 minutes,” said Tan, adding that the dates and times for the first four sessions were chosen by the salon.
Tan said each time she called to make subsequent appointments, the staff claimed that the dates she had chosen were booked by other customers.
She also complained about having to wait for her sessions to start.
“I have no issues with the treatments.
“But the salon’s staff failed to honour promises made to customers buying treatment packages as we were assured that we would not have to wait to be treated,” she said.
Tan filed her case with the tribunal asking for a refund of the remaining sum paid for the 30 sessions.
Tribunal president Lee Chee Thim ordered the respondent to refund RM4,161.74 to the claimant within two weeks, after having deducted the four treatment sessions utilised by Tan and 5% administrative fee charged by the respondent.
