An inaugural circumcision programme organised by Yayasan Penyayang Iskandar Puteri in collaboration with KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital was held involving 100 participants.
The corporate social responsibility initiative involved 70 staff of KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital, including five specialist doctors led by the hospital’s medical director and anaesthesiologist Dr Md Ali Mohd Salleh.
The event was launched by Yayasan Penyayang Iskandar Puteri executive secretary Datuk Abd Rashid Kasman.
He said the programme benefitted villagers, especially low-income families.
All participants received fully subsidised circumcisions, funded by Yayasan Penyayang Iskandar Puteri.
Each participant was also gifted a free National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN-i) account with an initial deposit of RM50 and a complimentary Tabung Haji savings account.
Housewife Maisarah Selamat Riadi, 41, said she was pleased with the opportunity to have her two sons circumcised.
“I learned about the programme through school and the timing was right as I had planned to get it done during the school holidays,” said the mother of Ahmad Fayyadh, nine, and Aidan Rayyan Ahmad Imran, seven.
She said that as her sons’ friends were also participating, her boys felt more at ease despite their fears.
After the procedure, Ahmad Fayyadh said he was initially scared and wanted to cry.
“I even screamed but once it was done, I felt happy. It was quick, and the doctors were kind.”
Lorry driver Fadzli Zakri, 36, also brought his two sons to the programme.
“I had initially planned to take them to a clinic but heard about this event.
“Both my sons enjoyed being with their friends and it helped ease their fears,” he said.
