Unlicensed businesses in Port Klang fined RM10,000

KLANG Royal City Council (MBDK) issued compounds totalling RM10,000 to five business premises in Telok Gong, Port Klang, which were operating without a valid business licence.

The spot-checks were carried out in three wood-based factories, a manure packing firm, and a warehouse.

MBDK Licensing Department director Zate Aziana Abdul Rahman said the three wood-based factories and the manure packing firm had been operating without licence since last year.

“Our initial checks revealed that the wood-based factories and manure packing firm had failed to renew their licences.

“The warehouse built in the same area was also operating without licence,” she said.

It is understood that the wood-based factories were manufacturing furniture parts.

Zate said that under the city council’s Licensing, Trade, Business and Industry (MPK) By-Laws 2007, compounds were issued to owners for not having valid business premises licences.

She said MBDK, however, did not shut down the businesses but only issued fines.

“We had to weigh the economic aspects and allow the businesses to continue as all had agreed to renew their business premises licence with immediate effect,” she said. ― By EDWARD RAJENDRA
