Thirteen-year-old Divyana Prasath set a new record in the Malaysia Books of Records (MBR) for “Most International Flags Identified by a Child in One Minute”.

Divyana earned the honours by identifying 86 international flags during the attempt at SMK Nilai Impian in Nilai, Negri Sembilan, as reported by Bernama.

The youngest of two siblings said she became interested in international flags when she was 11.

“At home, I can identify around 140 to 150 flags in a minute, but I guess I was a little nervous today.

“I am still happy to set this record and thank my family and teachers who have always believed in my ability,” she said.

Divyana said she was fond of watching programmes related to geography on the video sharing platform and hoped to one day travel around the world.

She said she was eager to gain more knowledge about various countries she hoped to visit, including Ecuador in South America.

Her parents, S. Tenagari and S. Prasath, said they were proud of their daughter’s achievement and that they hope her dream of becoming a geologist will come true.

Tenagari said they had noticed Divyana’s interest in general knowledge and national issues whenever she was on the video sharing site.

“Other parents may worry that their children often watch frivolous things on YouTube, but our daughter loves to learn about countries.

“She learns about the population, culture and currency of other countries,” said Tenagari.

MBR senior record consultant Edwin Yeoh said Divyana had recorded the highest achievement so far, compared to the 40 to 50 flags identified by other children.
