Roads in the Pelawan constituency of Sibu, Sarawak, will soon be brighter with the proposed upgrade of additional streetlights.

Pelawan assemblyman Datuk Michael Tiang said he was looking into upgrading street lighting using allocations under the rural transformation programme (RTP) fund.

“I will utilise the RTP fund to extend this initiative to Jalan Teng Chin Hua, Jalan Ling Kai Cheng, Jalan Wong Soon Kai and Jalan Wawasan,” said the state Deputy Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister in a statement.

Tiang said 234 streetlights would be upgraded – 80 on Jalan Teng Chin Hua, 68 on Jalan Ling Kai Cheng, 40 on Jalan Wong Soon Kai and 46 on Jalan Wawasan.

“With the increase in streetlights, these roads will be brighter with better visibility at night.

“This will ensure a safer environment for everyone,” said Tiang, who witnessed the streetlight installation on Jalan Penyau.
