SMK St Elizabeth students should seize the free education opportunities offered by the Sarawak government after completing their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), says Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau Lee Ming.
“From 2026, Sarawak will be providing free education in colleges and universities owned and managed by the state government,” he said.

Lau, who is the paramount Chinese community leader for Sibu district, was speaking at the school’s annual appreciation and prize-giving day.
The Sarawak government will provide free education to 25,000 prospective students in all state-owned institutions.
They are University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), Curtin University, Swinburne University, i-Cats University College and Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak (Centexs).
School principal Chee Hue Yiang said that 26 SMK St Elizabeth students achieved at least 10As in the 2022 SPM examinations.
The Sri Puteri Akademik Eliza award went to Rachel Teo Kai Ern while Renee Kang Yan Han won the Sri Puteri Bakti Eliza award.
A total of 321 students received certificates, including 124 for their academic achievements, 89 for co-curricular participation and 108 for their application in their studies.
Chee thanked the various sponsors of the awards including Dr Teh Lee Gek, and former students Mary Winifred Yii and Patrick Yii.
