Owners of 12 houses in Lorong Mempelam near Taman Gembira, Klang are upset that a substation, rubbish disposal area and row of water tanks are being built in front of their homes.
The land, which runs along the entire stretch of Lorong Mempelam, belongs to a social and recreation society which is building these structures.
The society also owns another plot of land nearby which faces Persiaran Raja Muda Musa where construction of a multi-storey building is ongoing.
Residents said as Lorong Mempelam was narrow, some of the structures would be just 1.5m from some houses.
Caryn Wong said their safety and health would be jeopardised if construction went ahead.
“Foul smell, insects and rodents are commonly found near rubbish.
“We are also worried about having a substation close by.”
G. Malarvili said residents did not agree with the construction right in front of their homes.

“Our safety should not be compromised in this way,’’ she added.
Tan Chun King said the construction would lead to financial loss for residents.
“The rubbish disposal area and substation will greatly affect the value of our houses.
“Who would want to live in a house facing a dumpsite?”
They have written to Klang Municipal Council (MPK) to voice their concerns.
People’s Legal Team founder lawyer Dinesh Muthal questioned how the project was approved as it was too close to the houses.
Pandamaran assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee had also visited the site and spoken with both the landowner and residents.
“Both the residents and landowner must arrive at a win-win solution,’’ said Leong, adding that he was willing to organise the discussion session.
MPK deputy president Zaireezal Ahmad Zainuddin, when contacted, said he would have to look at the complaint sent in by residents.
State local government and tourism committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim said the basis for approving the project must be looked at.
