TROPICANA Indah residents in Petaling Jaya are pushing caretaker Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to cancel the proposed relocation of Seri Selangor Golf Club (KGSS) clubhouse ahead of the state polls.

The residents, who object to the proposed development that they claim will negatively impact their neighbourhood, also asked for a meeting with Amirudin to discuss the matter.

The proposed development includes rebuilding the clubhouse next to residences at PJU3/11 and PJU3/12. The clubhouse is currently in Persiaran Damansara Indah, off Persiaran Tropicana.

“We want a written statement from the MB to cancel the proposed relocation of KGSS and that residents will be engaged in future for any development in the area.

“The state government should also maintain KGSS at its current location,” said Tropicana Indah Resort Homes Parcel 12 Residents Association (RA) secretary-general Amir Hussin Awang.

He said this during a meeting with Kota Damansara Pakatan Harapan candidate Muhammad Izuan Ahmad Kasim from PKR and Perikatan Nasional candidate Mohd Radzlan Jalaludin from Bersatu at KGSS.

During the meeting, the residents sought both candidates’ commitment to address the contentious relocation of the clubhouse.

StarMetro had on Feb 24 reported that six residents associations in the area objected to plans to construct a two-storey clubhouse on a parcel of land in the existing 64.7ha 18-hole, par-72 golf course owned by Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS).

The residents said the location was gazetted as recreational land, and feared that once the clubhouse was relocated, it would bring increased traffic to their housing area.

The residents also claimed there was an institutional conflict of interest in granting the project’s conditional approval by Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) for the proposed construction at Lot 50635.

They filed a judicial review to quash it, and case management has been set for Aug 15.

Should the project go ahead, it would affect 3,000 households in the area.

“Although the matter had been brought up during the Selangor state assembly sitting, Amirudin seems to have brushed it aside.

“We hope to meet the MB so that our voices can be heard.

“KGSS is the only public golf course in Klang Valley and a lot of young golfers hone their skills here,” said the RA chairman Madiyazhagan Maniam.

In response, Muhammad Izuan said MBPJ must hear residents’ input.

“If given the mandate, I will make sure a dialogue is held between local authorities and residents. We should discuss a win-win situation.”

He also said he would relay the residents’ request to meet the MB to Amirudin.

Meanwhile, Mohd Radzlan said residents were angry that they had not been engaged about the development in their area and should be given a proper channel to raise their concerns.

“It is unfair for me to give any promise to the residents as I have not heard from the state government,” he said.

Muhammad Izuan is in a three-cornered fight with Mohd Radzlan and PSM candidate Sivarajan Arumugam for the Kota Damansara state seat.

In the 2018 General Election, Shatiri Mansor from Pakatan-PKR won Kota Damansara with a 15,703 majority in a four-cornered fight against Barisan-Umno’s Datuk Halimaton Saadiah Bohan, Siti Rohaya Ahad from PAS and Sivarajan.
