KLANG’s Smart Selangor free buses have reached a ridership of seven million as of August.
Klang Municipal Council (MPK) Corporate Communications Department director Norfiza Mahfiz said 7,238,794 passengers had used the buses since 2015.
She noted that the Selangor Intelligent Transport System (SITS) app had boosted the numbers.
“With the app, people will know how long their wait will be and when the next bus will arrive,” she added.
The free WiFi service is another plus point as passengers can save on data costs.
Good frequency with arrivals every 15 minutes had also contributed to higher usage, said Norfiza.
“Before the Covid-19 pandemic, the B40 group were the main users.
“But now from observation, we see many from the M40 group also taking the bus,” she said.
There are seven routes in Klang district, with a total of 14 buses.
The new Scan and Ride QR Code feature has also been introduced in the Citizen E-Payment (CEPat) app.
“The Scan and Ride feature will enable us to gather data on the routes as part of efforts to improve the bus service,” said Norfiza.
“All passengers, except for the elderly and children, must scan the code upon entering and exiting the buses,” she said.
She added that non-Malaysians were required to pay 90sen per ride.
