DO NOT wait for a rainy day or a global pandemic to get your finances in order.

In line with this, Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) launched its second #SediaPayungKewangan financial resilience campaign and its microsite, as well as PIDM’s good financial management icon, Chief BerUang’s Instagram handle @chief.beruang.

The public can expect various on-ground and digital activities as the campaign goes hybrid until Sept 30.

PIDM executive vice-president Wan Ahmad Ikram Wan Ahmad Lotfi said the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, amid other economic uncertainties, had highlighted financial literacy as a necessary survival skill in building resilience.

“We want Malaysians to know that they don’t have to wait for a life-impacting event, such as the pandemic, to find out whether they are financially resilient or not, and to start getting their personal finances in order.”

The campaign is aimed at building Malaysians’ resilience through financial knowledge.

“We will leverage on Chief BerUang, PIDM’s as a medium to convey messages on the importance of good financial management in a series of animated videos that feature him as a talk show host.

“The public can also follow Chief BerUang on his new Instagram account @chief.beruang for financial tips and easy-to-consume financial literacy content,” added Wan Ahmad Ikram.

The campaign targets millennials at various life stages, such as working singles and married couples.

It also aims to spur conversations, to better prepare for financial challenges and emergencies.

One of the key highlights of the campaign is the Sedia Payung Kewangan (SPK) Calculator, an interactive tool that considers an individual’s income and expenses, before revealing how much they need to save up for emergencies.

Usage of the tool is free and doesn’t require registration. Anyone who is keen on building an emergency fund can use the SPK Calculator to assess their financial adequacy.

As part of on-ground activities, PIDM will organise roadshows in four areas, starting with the Klang Valley on Aug 6, followed by Negri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor to cover 25 locations over 21 days.

The public are invited to be on the lookout for the PIDM Kombi Van to participate in on-ground activities and win prizes in a photo contest.

Details of the PIDM Kombi Van’s locations and dates will be updated regularly on PIDM’s Facebook page and Chief BerUang’s Instagram account.

#SediaPayungKewangan debuted in 2021 and garnered a reach of over 9.5 million via a spectrum of digital channels, while the first three animated “Borak Bersama Chief BerUang” video series recorded 3.9 million cumulative views on Facebook and YouTube.
