ASSISTED living is usually for those aged 60 and above, particularly patients who need care after hospitalisation.
It has evolved to help the elderly live more independently with access to wellness services.
One such senior care facility is Komune Living & Wellness in Bandar Tun Razak, Cheras, Kuala Lumpur which combines co-living spaces with a wellness hub.
Boasting 791 units – comprising studio rooms, two-bedroom studios, one-bedroom suites of various sizes and other types of rooms for short- and long-term stays – it offers a large pool of doctors, physicians and therapists.
Each floor has its own round-the-clock care team.
The airy and well-planned space also provides residents access to Tong Xin Tang traditional Chinese medicine specialists on site.
Komune Care chief executive officer Martin Yap said the UOA Group, which owns the facility, had set up a RM500,000 senior care fund so qualified residents in need of financial help could have a comfortable stay.
“It is our hope to enable seniors in need to access these services.
“We want them to age comfortably in good living conditions,” he said.
The subsidised programme includes post-hospitalisation care as well as daycare for semi-independent seniors.
As part of their activities, residents can enjoy relaxing walks at the neighbouring Taman Tasik Permaisuri.
Families need not worry about the seniors’ safety, thanks to the centre’s tight security.
Those who need extra care will be given a monitoring device that can be worn around the neck.
“Clients who get lost just need to press the button on the device and our security team will locate them,” said Yap.
“We have CCTV cameras everywhere and the place is well-monitored by the security team.”
As for meals, general manager Mark Chen said the facility had a food court with a seating capacity of 400 and 12 stalls that serve Chinese, Malay and Western food.
Residents can also cook their own meals in the communal kitchen.
Chen said the facility’s modern approach to senior living enabled residents to have an enjoyable and enriching experience.
Other facilities include game and activity rooms, a KTV room, therapy hall, music therapy room, gymnasium and lounges for relaxation.
The senior citizens’ conditions are assessed before they are accepted so that the facility can customise its services accordingly.
Applications for the subsidy is managed by Komune Care and subject to approval by the disbursement committee based on the fulfilment of requirements.
