MPAJ draft local plan ready for feedback

Ampang Jaya stakeholders can visit several locations, including Menara MPAJ in Pandan Indah,to view the draft Ampang Jaya Municipal Council Local Plan 2035 (RT MPAJ).

THE draft Ampang Jaya Municipal Council Local Plan 2035 (RT MPAJ) is now on display.

The changes include 91 proposals to rezone land status and increase land density as well as proposals for a new highway project and alignment for the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) 3 Circle Line.

The draft plan shows that seven MRT3 stations have been proposed to be built in Ampang Jaya, subject to changes.

Part of the Kuala Lumpur Northern Dispersal Expressway (KL Node) alignment could also run through the municipality.

“Public participation is an important part of the process to gazette the local plan as it involves all stakeholders.

“Prior to the preparation of the draft plan, focus group discussions were conducted with various agencies, including Forestry Depart-ment, land office, Public Works Department and Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM).

“Now is the time for the public to be aware of potential changes and voice their views on proposed development in their neighbourhoods,” said MPAJ secretary Julaihah Jamaludin after the unveiling of the draft plan at Menara MPAJ.

Also present was Selangor Islamic affairs, consumer affairs and halal industry committee chairman Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni.

Julaihah added that the draft plan detailed the zoning type, land use and planned developments within MPAJ’s jurisdiction for the next 15 years.

“It will focus on developing transit-oriented developments, redevelopment of stalled projects, preservation of forests and natural resources, among others, with the theme of Ampang Kita.”

Ampang Jaya’s population is set to grow to 800,000 people from the current population of some 600,000 by 2035.

“The challenge is to ensure that we have enough housing and infrastructure, without compromising the existing natural resources,” she added.

In line with the state’s Smart Selangor initiative, the draft plan is available digitally with feedback forms on www.mpaj.gov.my

The RT MPAJ 2035 will replace the 2020 version, which was gazetted in 2011 and went through two amendments, in 2013 and 2016.

The draft plan will be up for display at PLANMalaysia@Selangor (until June 29), Lotus’s Ampang (June 1-3 & June 27-29), Ampang Point Shopping Centre (June 7-10), Melawati Mall (June 13-17) and Aeon Big Ampang (June 20-24).
