TO MAKE his lifelong dream of owning a motorhome come true, retiree Dr Ridzuan Ramli spent part of his pension money to buy an imported recreational vehicle (RV) from Japan worth RM150,000.

The 59-year-old former research officer at the Malaysian Palm Oil Board opted for early retirement last year because he could not wait any longer to go travelling in his own motorhome with his wife.

“I bought a Toyota Camroad 2.8 Diesel Turbo motorhome.

“So far, Besut is the farthest location I have visited with my wife,” he said when met at the “Camper Rally Terengganu 2022” event at Dendong Beach which gathered 76 motorhomes and caravans from throughout the country.

Sharing his passion is 51-year-old businessman from Setiu, Wan Sharudin Wan Latif, who spent about RM500,000 on an imported motorhome from the United Kingdom last year.

Wan Sharudin said he and his family had travelled to all the states in peninsular Malaysia in their motorhome.

“We plan to travel around Europe in our motorhome after the Covid-19 pandemic subsides,” he added.

Meanwhile, Malaysia Campervan and Motorhome Association (PCMM) president Farman Othman said the owners of the vehicles chose Dendong Beach as the venue for their fourth gathering because of the beautiful scenery.

Farman says the vehicle owners choose to gather at Dendong Beach because of its beauty.

“Our first camper gathering in Langkawi in 2021 drew 46 RVs.

“This was followed by gatherings in Seremban, Negri Sembilan (56 vehicles) and Kedah (22 vehicles),” said Farman.

He said the programme was a collaboration between PCMM and the Terengganu government through the Terengganu Entrepreneur Development Foundation.

He said the RVs at the event were of various brands, with the vehicles worth RM50,000 and above. They are equipped with beds, kitchen and toilet. — Bernama
