Great Heart Charity Association (GHCA) launched a campaign to collect 100 sign-ups for its monthly donation programme, in order to sustain over 100 beneficiaries per month.
The major goal of the campaign, which began in January, was to secure enough funds so that the organisation could help more families in need get a fresh start.
Donors who signed up were allowed to choose the amount of their contribution, starting from RM1 per day, and have their donations tripled.
To support the cause, RS Wines & Spirits, in partnership with Great Heart, matched each donation up to 200%, with a maximum of RM200 per person for the first month.
The initiative was created to encourage more donors to sign up.
“I have been following Great Heart Charity’s social work closely and have been a part of it myself,” said RS Wines & Spirits founder Ric See Swee Poh.
“Great Heart’s passion and spirit for charity work has inspired me to work harder so that I can better serve our community,” See added.
The donations will be utilised for GHCA’s beneficiaries who include underprivileged families, renal patients, orphanages, old folks homes and Orang Asli projects.
According to the Statistics Department, about 2.78 million Malaysian households are classified as B40, a number that has increased since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The programme has helped over 350 families from the B40 and M40 categories by giving each household RM200 in financial aid.
GHCA is also helping small business owners during the pandemic.
A single mother of three, who wished to be known only as Kalaivahni, is one of GHCA’s beneficiaries who has received assistance for her business. One of her children has cerebral palsy.
GHCA collaborated with another private charity to help Kalaivahni in providing for her children’s needs, besides donating a new oven for her catering business.
