Best friends land jobs at career fair

Best friends Siti Maizura Zainal Abidin and Kamarul Zaman Mat Nayan, both 28, never imagined that their visit to the state Jamin Kerja Keluarga Malaysia career carnival in Johor Baru would be so fruitful as they both secured a job after interviews.

The event was held in conjunction with the “Malaysian Family Aspirations Tour”.

Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, Siti Maizura and Kamarul Zaman of Taman Perling did not have any high expectations when they arrived at the carnival.

However, luck was on their side as a supermarket chain offered them jobs as supervisors.

Kamarul Zaman said he previously worked at various places in sales, marketing and food before opting for a part-time job as a drop shipper so that he could take care of his mother.

“My mother has almost recovered from her illness. That’s why I visited this career carnival.

“I am grateful as the Social Security Organisation employees at the event were very helpful, starting from the registration and counselling to the interview process.”

Siti Maizura, whose workplace closed down last month, was thankful for her new job with a decent salary.

She used to work as an assistant manager at a fast food chain as well as a sales assistant, adding that she saw the career carnival advertisement on social media and invited Kamarul Zaman to go with her.“Alhamdulillah, this is rezeki for both of us,” she said.

More than 5,000 jobs were offered by 15 employers at the carnival held at Dataran Angsana, Johor Baru.

Among the employers were Maybank, Flextronics, Speedmart, McDonald’s, Pizza Hut and KFC, with most of the jobs in the food and beverage sector. — Bernama
