Several commercial premises in Lestari Perdana evacuated after drain cliff collapses

WORKERS at 17 commercial premises located along Jalan LP1A/1 in Lestari Perdana, Seri Kembangan were asked to evacuate their premises after the side of a main drain collapsed on Tuesday (Jan 25) evening.

“The Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Pantas squad was alerted by the Fire and Rescue Department when the side of the drain collapsed at Jalan LP1A/1 at about 7pm," said MBSJ Corporate and Strategic Management Department deputy director Azfarizal Abdul Rashid.

He added in a statement that there were no injuries from the collapse and that five cars were damaged.

“The cliff that collapsed was about 90m long and 9m high. The affected area comprised an open air parking space and part of a road.”

Azfarizal added that the evacuation order was given by Serdang district police chief ACP A.A Anbalagan on the advice of MBSJ’s Engineering Department and the Fire and Rescue Department.

“MBSJ will carry out sheet pile strengthening work immediately to prevent the situation from getting worse. We will also identify the cause of the collapse and plan the repairs soon," said Azfarizal.

He added that Subang Jaya deputy mayor Zulkurnain Che Ali, MBSJ Engineering Department director Rosli Mohammad Yunus, MBSJ councillor M. Anbarasan Murugesu and representatives from Seri Serdang assemblyman Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud’s office have been to the site.
