SELAYANG Municipal Council (MPS) has managed to collect assessment fees amounting to RM86.7mil (79.57%) from the projected RM109mil as at Sept 30.
The council collected RM6.1mil (74.91%) from the outstanding arrears of RM8.15mil, MPS president Mohd Yazid Sairi said during a full board meeting.
He said notices (in Form E) were issued on Sept 1 to property owners with assessment arrears.
“A warrant of RM100 will be issued, starting Oct 21, to ratepayers with arrears,” he said.
He disclosed that 73,368 overdue notices expired on Oct 20.
“The public can check and make payments through the MyMPS portal,” he added.
To encourage residents to pay up, MPS organised a campaign in villages and at low-cost housing areas.
“Property owners who make full payment will get a reduction in charges and the warrant against them will be cancelled.
“All information on eligibility for cancellation of warrants is available at the MPS assessment payment counter,” said Mohd Yazid.
From Oct 25 to Dec 31, renewal of business licences can be done online.
Business owners are required to update their information and make payments at lesendigital.mps.gov, then print out their business licence for display.
“The MyMPS initiative is to facilitate the licence renewal process so that people do not have to be physically present at the counter,” Mohd Yazid highlighted.
“However, the payment process for licences for liquor, massage and reflexology parlours, cybercafes, hotels, visual or billboard licences including those from unauthorised factories, as well as scrap items and quarries, must be made through MyMPS and applicants must collect their licence from the Licensing Department.
“I hope all area councillors will remind business owners to renew their licences before Dec 31 to avoid a late payment processing fee of 10%.
“MPS is also currently holding a compound discount campaign offering RM10 for each parking compound to vehicle owners with outstanding notices in Selayang,” he said.
He added that the campaign period would be from Nov 1 to 30.
The public can visit the MPS lobby counter, MPS mobile counter in selected areas or make payment through the Flexi Parking and Smart Selangor Parking apps.
Mohd Yazid also announced that the Smart Scape group from MPS Landscape Department had won a second prize of RM2,500 in Anugerah Inovasi Negeri Selangor competition (AINS) 2021 on Oct 27.
“The award was for the group’s ‘My Auger All In One’ project.
“It is a machine innovation combining three main components.
“It can transport trees, dig holes for tree planting and measure the distance between trees as well as depth of the holes.”
MPS, he said, was also named the MSOSH OSH Gold Class 2 Award winner for the MSOSH OSH Award 2021 programme organised by the Malaysian Society for Occupational Safety and Health (MSOSH).
“The awards ceremony is on Nov 25 in Kuala Lumpur,” he added.
The local council will participate in the Selangor Industrial Park Expo programme by Invest Selangor from Nov 18 to 21, which promotes the state as a global trading hub in Asia.
“MPS has been a part of this programme since 2016.
“We hope to promote the council and attract potential investors to Selayang,” said Mohd Yazid.
Besides these, the MPS Virtual Sport Open Tournament, from Nov 4 to 7, will be held online and among the e-sports to be featured are Mobile Legends, FIFA 21 and PUBG Mobile.
Participation is open to all Malaysians.
