NEARLY RM190,000 was distributed to 20 orphanages to fulfil the wishes of a generous benefactor.

Rockwills Trustee Bhd, acting as the trustee in the last will and testament of the testator, presented proceeds totalling RM189,304 to the 20 selected orphanages in a ceremony at its office in Petaling Jaya.

As the proceeds were distributed equally, each orphanage received RM9,465, benefiting a total of 1,100 orphans.

The benefactor, Madam W’s, last wishes is still benefitting the underprivileged years after her death.

Rockwills Trustee chief executive officer Azhar Iskandar Hew said Madam W instructed in her will that a portion of her estate amounting to RM6mil was to be held in trust for the sole purpose of investment and its earnings to be utilised to fund orphanages.

“Since 2013, when Rockwills Trustee was appointed as trustee, the income has been distributed to orphanages, ” he added.

Rockwills Trustee’s internal operations committee comprises directors and senior management staff who make sure Madam W’s trust fund is invested in appropriate investment instruments giving a steady return annually without jeopardising the capital placed into the trust.

This committee also ensures the diversity of orphanages selected so that many would benefit from the trust, regardless of race and religion.

Azhar said that while willing to charity had become increasingly common, such perpetual acts of charity like that of Madam W’s that was being carried out annually and without limitation of a time frame, was not as common.
