KUANTAN: Pengurusan Air Pahang Berhad (Paip) is building a pre-sedimentation tank involving several water treatment plants in Raub to overcome water turbidity problems there.
Through a RM18mil allocation from the Federal Government, the tank will be built to reduce the high turbidity rate of the raw water source before it flows through the Sungai Bilut, Sungai Semantan and Sungai Klau treatment plants.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the project was expected to take 18 months to complete, comprising six months of designing and acquisition and 12 months of construction.
“The state government will ensure the project is implemented and finished quickly so that the people of Raub who are affected by the problem can enjoy clean, treated water earlier, ” he said.
The state government had allocated RM12mil to ensure there would be adequate raw water supply during the hot weather season by having Paip implement the off river storage (ORS) pilot project in Lipis.
The ORS method would reduce the high turbidity of the raw water supply, thus saving operating costs of treating water.
“This project is expected to take 19 months to complete, with four months for design and acquisition works and 15 months for construction.
“The state government hopes the ORS pilot project will become an alternative to guarantee adequate raw water supply that is not murky, which can then be processed into treated water needed by the people of Pahang, ” said Wan Rosdy. — By ONG HAN SEAN
