Fun run aims to raise patriotic spirit

LOTS of fun activities are lined up for the Seputeh Merdeka Fun Run 2019 which will take place on Aug 24.

The event, jointly organised by Taman Desa Park Residents Association (TDRA) and Zone 1 Federal Territories Representatives Council (MPPWP), feature games, cooking demonstrations, performances by schoolchildren, exhibitions and free refreshments, including mooncakes.

Talks on palm oil by experts and industry players will be also be held on that day.

The 5km run will begin at Jalan Desa Setia and end at SMK Taman Desa, where all the activities will take place.

TDRA treasurer Koh Swee Hyong said the event aimed to raise the spirit of patriotism among the participants.

Koh said a similar event was held last year to help raise funds for Tabung Harapan.

“This year, the event will centre around palm oil to create awareness of its nutritional values and uses.

“We want to promote a healthy lifestyle among Malaysians, ” said Koh.

More than 1, 500 people are expected to join the run this year.

“The event is open to all Malaysians, not just residents in the neighbourhood, ” said Koh.

Primary Industries Minister and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok will flag off the run at 7.30am.

She will later launch the “Sayangi Sawitku” programme at the school.

Registration fee is RM30 for adults and RM20 for children below 18.

Each participant will receive a T-shirt and a goodie bag.
