IT IS tempting just thinking about the variety of dishes that will be served for Christmas at home or even restaurants in the city.
Walking into Temptations at Renaissance Kuala Lumpur Hotel and being greeted by its lavish buffet is a sign of the restaurant living up to its name.
Diners will be treated to a Christmas feast with a wide selection of savoury dishes and sweet indulgences by World Association of Chefs’ Societies Global Master Chef and Renaissance executive chef Helmut Lamberger and his team.
As with all traditional Christmas feasts, there will be roasted turkey with stuffing and trimmings as well as cranberry compote and giblet sauce.
There is also Roasted Prime Beef Ribs at the carving station and Roasted Leg of Lamb and Pumpkin Mashed with Thyme Sauce for those who prefer variety.
This year, the Western menu is bigger, incorporating more European dishes such as Scandinavia’s Baked Salmon with Vegetable and Lime Salsa and Lamberger’s take, the Russian-Italian fusion of Chicken Stroganoff with Potato Gnocchi.
“I wanted to introduce more classic Christmas dishes.
“Christmas is becoming a bigger celebration in this day and age and I realised that many people are looking for Western dishes.
“We emphasise a lot on texture – stew, braised, roasted, pan-fried, as well as variety, colour and value to cater to the different taste buds so that everyone can enjoy,” Lamberger said.
My favourite was the Chicken Stroganoff with Potato Gnocchi, which are soft dough dumplings.
The chicken and sauce was really tasty, fused by the ingredients that Lamberger had put in including slices of poultry loaf, mushroom, sour cream, gherkin as well as paprika powder and black pepper for a slight kick.
I also enjoyed the Asparagus and Roma Tomato Salad because of its refreshing taste.
My colleague was blown away by the Seafood Chowder with Chunky Crouton as that, too, was pleasing to the taste buds and would make an ideal comfort food on a cold day.
Other dishes that diners can look forward to are Beef Mignon Steaks with Dijon Mustard Sauce, Roasted Potatoes with Honey Pecan Nut, Tandoori Prawns, local delights like satay, Japanese cuisine and cold seafood platter.
With its light silky texture and consistency, the Vanilla Panna Cotta with Berries Stew tops my list as the perfect way to end a meal, especially after a heavy one.
I also thought the Christmas Pudding, even though rich, had its sweetness just right while the cake-like bread Christmas Stollen was not too dry and icing sugar powdered just nicely for a subtle sweet aftertaste.
Other desserts that would tempt not only the taste buds but the cameras of your phones are Pumpkin Pie with Italian Meringue, English Fruit Cake, Raspberry Chocolate Log Cake, Cinnamon Creme Brulee, Santa Fruit Pavlova, Hazelnut Eclair and Chocolate Lava.
The Dinner Buffet at Temptations for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is RM148nett per person inclusive of a non-alcoholic welcome cocktail.
There will also be lunch and dinner buffets on Christmas, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day at a different price.
