A PREGNANT woman faced a terrible inconvenience today when she drove over a missing drain cover unawares and got her front tyre stuck in the gap.

Najwa Ramlan, 28, was out shopping for baby products by herself in Alam Avenue 2 and was leaving her parking space when she had her little mishap on Jalan Serai Wangi M 16/M.

The uncovered opening of a paved-over drain was right in front of her parked car, and according to Najwa, she did not notice the cover was missing as there were no traffic cones or other objects to indicate there was a hole there.

She said she often visited the business area and parked around the location, but this was the first time she had noticed the uncovered drain opening – after the fact.

Her front bumper was damaged as a result and she had to call her older brother for assistance in getting her car out.

“Some residents there told me that the same thing happened to a lorry here yesterday, and that they had been making complaints about it since June, but nothing has been done,” Najwa said.

Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) corporate communications head Shahrin Ahmad said the council will be replacing the missing covers with concrete slabs instead.

"Concrete slabs have no resale value and it may prevent vandalism," he said.
