MIRI: Miri Fire and Rescue Department is expected to collaborate with the army in fighting forest fires.

Its chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said the army, represented by Col Azmi Ali, offered to cooperate with the department to fight forest fires.

“Col Azmi visited us in Miri to discuss on the collaboration.

“We are very thankful for the offer.

“The offer is most welcomed as fighting forest fires requires huge manpower,” said Supt Law.

He said the army would help the department, especially when there was a major fire outbreak.

Both parties will also collaborate in other disasters such as floods.

Supt Law said the department and the army would also extend the collaboration to other beneficial activities in the future.

“Among other things, we will help organise fire and safety courses for army housewives in Miri.

“We will conduct joint training and friendly games to improve our relationship,” said Supt Law.
