MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has a ship in waters off Miri suspected for smuggling goods worth millions of ringgit.
Miri MMEA chief Mohd Fauzi Othman confirmed that the locally-registered ship and its cargo plus its crew had been detained.
“On Aug 2, at about 1030pm, our patrol team sighted a ship ferrying cargo without permits and the crew was behaving suspiciously.
“We boarded the ship and found six trucks and heavy machineries, two four-wheel-drive vehicles, a Toyota Camry, a Myvi, a Vespa and crates containing liquor,” he told reporters here.
Fauzi said the ship’s captain and crew had been detained.
The agency is investigating the case under the Commercial Shipping Ordinance 1952, he added.
