Works of art on pencil tips

HBO Game of Thrones pencil art microsculpture exhibition at Sunway Pyramid.

CANNOT wait for the new season of Game of Thrones to premiere in Asia?

Why not whet your appetite for the fantasy series by visiting the HBO & Astro Presents Game of Thrones A Pencil Microsculpture Exhibition by Salavat Fidai taking place until July 9 at Sunway Pyramid, LG2 Blue Concourse from 10am to 10pm.

Fans and visitors thronged the exhibition when it opened to have a glimpse of the delicate works of art using the magnifying glass that accompanies each pencil art.

They also participated in several fun activities that were reflective of the award-winning HBO series based on George R.R. Martin’s bestselling book series A Song of Ice and Fire.

Some of the delicate pieces feature a White Walker (extreme left), an ancient race of humanoid ice creatures, and the sigils of House Greyjoy (centre) and House Baratheon (left).

HBO Asia had commissioned Russian artist and sculptor Salavat Fidai to produce 16 Game of Thrones-themed sculptures into the tips of fragile graphite pencils.

The pencils on display include the microsculpture carvings of the Iron Throne, sigils from houses Stark, Targaryen, Baratheon and Lannister, as well as the Hand Of The King pin, Cersei’s new crown, Drogon the dragon, the Three Eyed Raven, the Night’s King, a White Walker, the Titan of Braavos, the Weirwood tree, and two swords – Brienne of Tarth’s Oathkeeper and Jon Snow’s Long Claw.

Fidai is renowned as one of the leading experts in the field of miniature sculpture, creating intricate and detailed art on the tips of pencils with diameters between 2mm and 5mm.

He was born and raised in a small village at the foot of the Ural Mountains in Russia and began this unique form of sculpting in 2014.

He also creates miniature paintings on seeds and matchboxes.
