The crowd started to gather outside Sunway Pyramid as early as 6am before they were let into the roadshow area at 9am.

MALAYSIANS are truly an enthusiastic bunch when it comes to getting shiny new gadgets.

As early as 6am, people were already queueing up outside Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall in the hopes of being one of the earliest to purchase the latest Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ smartphones.

As part of the launch celebration, Samsung Malaysia Electronics is giving away a limited edition starter kit and battery pack for the first 400 customers while the next 600 will receive a battery pack.

Samsung Malaysia Electronics president Lee Sang Hoon joined buyers in experiencing the excitement as they purchased the new Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ during the first day of the roadshow at Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall, Petaling Jaya.

This activity happened simultaneously at three roadshow locations: Sunway Pyramid in Selangor, Queensbay Mall in Penang and Sutera Mall in Johor Baru.

The roadshow is happening until Sunday.

Student Kelsi Yong was among the first to get her hands on the phone, who received it as a gift from her mum.

Yong, who has been using a Samsung Note 4, had been looking forward to upgrade to the latest model.

“What drew me to the phone is the design, it looks different from other models,” she said.

Some of the key features she was anticipating were the longer battery life and camera quality.

At the roadshows, Samsung also introduced a Trade-Up campaign in which consumers can trade in their current smartphones for the new devices.

The campaign extends beyond the roadshow to all 76 Samsung Experience Stores as well as authorised dealers nationwide and ends June 30.
