SUPERHEROES from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College’s Perak campus have come to the aid of autistic children.
Pulling together their strength, the students successfully organised a two-day carnival during which RM30,000 was raised for the National Autistic Society of Malaysia (Nasom) in Ipoh.
Held last weekend, the #Superheroes Carnival saw more than 200 students and the public, including autistic individuals, take part in a 3km “mask walk”, around Kampar’s New Town.
Superman, Iron Man, Hulk, Spiderman, Batman, Captain America, Flash were all present.

Project chairman Adrian Ong Pi-Jyn said one out of every 600 children in Malaysia was autistic.
“While there are a number of non-governmental organisations that help autistic children, many of them find it hard to sustain their operations due to lack of financial and moral support.
“Hence, we have decided to organise this carnival to raise funds for Nasom, which is operating from a rather old and rundown house,” he said.
Nasom Ipoh assistant coordinator Salina Safii said with five teachers and 21 students aged between four and 28, up to RM2,000 was required to run the centre each month.
“We really appreciate what these students are doing to raise awareness for autism and also to help our centre.

“This money they have raised for us will go a long way,” she said.
Other activities held during the carnival included a mini food festival, installation art, haunted house and bazaar.
