“DETERMINATION ultimately pays off”.

That is the encouraging advice that La Juiceria Superfoods founder and managing director Annabelle Co-Martinent gave to the finalists of Miss Universe Malaysia 2017.

The top 18 finalists had an inspiring morning during the women empowerment discussion at the La Juiceria Mont Kiara branch, where they received valuable advice from the successful entrepreneur.

Co-Martinent, who previously worked in the computer and technology industry, shared how motherhood changed her perception on inner health, which prompted her to create La Juiceria after the birth of her second child.

“I believe that one’s appearance is reflected by one’s inner health.

“After childbirth, I realised that it was important for me to stay as healthy as I can be for my children as I was also breastfeeding.

“In our effort to educate the public on the benefits of juicing the right way, my business partners and I created a website and expanded the business to reach more people,” she said.

Fashion label Twenty3 founder Sherlyn Tan also shared how the book How to Get from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be: The 25 Principles of Success by Jack Canfield gave her the push to start Twenty3.

“I had no background in fashion or business.

“However, after reading the book, I decided to take the leap of faith and invested everything I had to build the company with whatever savings I had from singing at hotels.

“One crucial thing I learned is that it is important to believe in yourself.

“Even when I was cheated out off some pieces of stock, I kept going.

“As a competitive person, I always challenge myself to be better every year by setting new, realistic goals for myself to take on before the new year comes,” Tan said.

Local sportswear brand Ash Be Nimble founder Hui Matthews was also present at the insightful discussion to share her experience in building her own label.

To educate the girls on how to practise a healthier diet, Co-Martinent taught them the benefits of slow juicing compared to the conventional fast juicing during the juicing demonstration.

The girls also got the chance to try out some of La Juiceria’s guilt-free meals and nourishing cold-pressed juices.

Ash Be Nimble and La Juiceria are official sponsors of The Miss Universe Malaysia 2017 pageant.

The annual pageant will crown its winner on Feb 23 next year at The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The winner will represent Malaysia at the Miss Universe pageant later in the year.

The winner of Miss Universe Malaysia 2017 will also receive RM50,000 and sponsored prizes worth over RM150,000.
