About 150 people from 34 families in Kampung Tok Muda in Kapar, Klang are putting up at a community hall in the village following two days of flash floods in the area.
Village headman Halani Surip said this was only the second time in almost 20 years it had been hit by a major flood.
“We are grateful for the help extended by the authorities including the Welfare Department as well as federal and state government agencies.
“We have been provided with comfortable bedding including mosquito netting as well as food and other essential items,” he said.
Nuratashah Norudin, 33, said she was watching television with other members of the family at about 7am on Sunday when they were alerted by neighbours on the flood.
She said water gushed towards the village rapidly and only receded after two hours.
“The water level on Sunday was below knee-level and above knee-level on Monday,” she said
Zamir Samuhi, 34, said it was strange that flash floods had struck the village over two consecutive days.
“We hope it will not flood again on Wednesday,” he said
Klang Umno division chief Datuk Faizal Abdullah said more villagers are expected to return to their homes on Wednesday.
He said the high tide which had caused havoc in the village was expected to last until today.
“We are lucky it did not flood today (Tuesday) because there was no rain and we expect the situation to be the same tomorrow (Wednesday),” he said after visiting victims at the community hall yesterday.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department said the high tide that hit the Selangor coastline had also led to the evacuation of 237 victims from 55 families to two flood relief centres in Sabak Bernam and one in Tanjung Karang.
