A FUNDRAISING event by the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) for the SMJK Heng Ee branch in Bayan Lepas has got off to a good start.
Setting a target of RM10mil, the chamber has collected RM3mil so far for the event which will be held at G Hotel in Penang at 7pm on Wednesday.
PCCC president Datuk Seri Choot Ewe Seng thanked the donors and hoped that more people would support the cause by attending the dinner.
“We managed to raise RM3mil within such a short span of time. We want to reach the target of RM10mil. The total amount will be announced during the dinner and handed over to the school committee,” he told a press conference at the PCCC building in Light Street yesterday.
Choot said Heng Ee’s dance club and Chinese orchestra would perform at the event.
He hoped the new school in Jalan Sungai Tiram 1 could open next year.
PCCC executive advisor Tan Sri Tan Kok Ping said the new school would “balance out” the number of students studying at SMJK Heng Ee in Jalan Hamilton.
“When the branch is open, students no longer have to travel far out to town just to attend school.
“This makes it convenient for the parents and students while easing traffic in Penang as well.”
Invitation to the dinner is reserved for donors only. For details, call PCCC (04-2504050/ 4051/4052).
