MIRI: Posters and billboards used by the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) in this state election are highlighting the strong spirit of patriotism for Sarawak.
“The SUPP’s messages are serious, aimed at instilling a sense of unity among the many different races and ethnic groups throughout Sarawak,” SUPP information chief Adam Yii said.
“The wordings and slogans reflect the quest by SUPP and Sarawak Barisan Nasional to secure greater autonomy for Sarawak within Malaysia,” he said, adding that SUPP had been pivotal in this quest.
“Our party has been working hard towards this direction, not only now during this state election, but starting more than a year or so ago,” he said in an interview.
He said SUPP had been holding many public talks throughout the state on regular basis on this patriotism topic.
“The turnout has been good. We want to see this patriotism spread throughout the state,” he said.
In Miri, there are a number of places where similar billboards on Sarawak autonomy are being displayed but they have themes that are linked to the S4S (Sarawak for Sarawakians) movement.
The S4S is a non political group set up by locals who want to see Sarawak reviewing its rights under the Malaysia Agreement via a public referendum.
Fong Pau Teck, the independent candidate for Pujut constituency in Miri city, has been using the S4S themes in his public posters.
