The name Genji is derived from “Genji no ma” or “House of Genji”, in honour of a legendary nobleman of feudal Japan. He was known as “the shining Genji”, famed for his appreciation and passion for fine food, wine and lifestyle.
Serving aficionados of Japanese cuisine since 1988, Genji Japanese Restaurant at Hilton Petaling Jaya has carved a reputation for consistent quality in food with a myriad of country-styled Japanese cuisine of seasonal delicacies, ideal for social dining with family and friends, and work-dining with business associates.
After its recent renovation, the restaurant boasts a spacious, comfortable dining area accommodating approximately 148 diners, located on the first floor of the hotel’s East Wing.
The entire atmosphere follows a modern Japanese country restaurant, with an interesting collection of Japanese objects d’art for warmth and comfort.
The dining room layout provides extra privacy for diners through separate sections.
The restaurant is partitioned into the sushi bar, main restaurant, two spacious teppanyaki counters and five private dining rooms and a tatami-styled dining room.
The gastronomic journey starts at the salad counter with fresh mixed salad, assorted pickled vegetables, potato salad, cucumber, seaweed and jellyfish in vinegar, fruit salad and green beans.
The sushi and sashimi section displays fresh salmon, tuna, butterfish, octopus and sea bream sashimi, as well as salmon, prawn and shellfish sushi.
Also available is the tempura and teppan counter for fried or deep-fried prawns, carrots, ladies fingers, potatoes, beef, chicken, squid, green mussels and mixed vegetables.
Genji’s hot dish counter has grilled eel with sweet soya sauce, fried dory fish, salted grilled sanma fish, deep-fried softshell crab, fried rice and noodles, fried tofu with tempura sauce and steamed vegetables.
Diners can also witness chefs in action at the live-action counter, as they prepare mushroom dishes such as shiitake, abalone and shimeji, assorted vegetables, tofu and bamboo shoots in earthen pots.
Complete the culinary adventure with delectable desserts such as ais kacang, which is a combination of cincau, green tea syrup, red beans and sweet corn; green tea, strawberry and vanilla ice cream; dorayaki (Japanese-style pancake); zenzai and shiratama nagon (red bean soup with glutinous rice cake) and more.
During weekends, the restaurant offers guests a Japanese Saturday dinner buffet, with the first session starting from 6pm to 7.45pm at RM139 nett per adult and RM69 nett per child aged five to 11.
The second session is from 8pm to 10.30pm priced at RM150 nett per adult and RM75 nett per child.
Buffet lunch is also available on Sundays from 11.30am to 2.30pm at RM139 nett per adult and RM69 nett per child.
