IN 2013, Perak became the first state in the country to provide topical e-learning modules in additional mathematics and physics for SPM students for free.

Three years on, ezlearn2u.my has progressed into an online tuition portal with over 4,200 modules on 85 topics benefiting learners from Year 1 right up to Form Five.

Aptly renamed the Amanjaya Online Tuition Portal, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir proudly revealed that 400,000 learners in various parts of Perak were currently benefiting from the free lessons made available by the state government.

“Of the number of learners now, 40% are in the rural areas.

“We are currently working towards creating full accessibility throughout the state because ultimately, our aim is to close the education gap between our rural and urban students.

“Hopefully, we can achieve this by the year 2020,” Zambry told reporters after launching the portal and a mind-mapping workshop in Ipoh on Thursday.

Noting that the wheels were already in motion to increase greater internet accessibility in Perak, Zambry said the Pos Kemar orang asli settlement in Gerik recently became the first recipient of the Communications and Multimedia Ministry’s “Connecting The Unconnected (CTU)” transformation programme.

The programme aims to make sure 95% of people at the orang asli cluster settlement have access to the internet by the year 2020.

“The state government has also decided to no longer limit itself to the use of just one internet service provider.

“Instead, we will go with whichever service provider can give us the best and fastest access in a particular area,” he said, adding that state agency, KPerak Inc Corporation, has also been directed to work on increasing internet access in the rural areas.

Earlier in his speech, Zambry said Perak’s online tuition portal was already being adopted in a different state with yet another state having voiced its intention of taking it up.

Also present at the launch was educationist Sunny Yee, who is creator and content developer of the online tuition portal accessible at www.ezlearn2u.my
