The series of Education and Career Talks at the Level 2 Pre-Function Area will give visitors vital insights into some of the most in-demand professions today.
From 4.30pm to 6pm on Saturday, there will be a segment on Pursuing Medicine and Health Sciences.
Assoc Prof Nazimah Idris, who is Associate Dean of International Medical University's (IMU) Clinical School, will deliver a talk on ‘A Career in Medicine — A Lifetime of Caring’.
She will focus on the personality needed for one to be a good doctor, how life iks like for a medical student, and what awaits in the career proper.
“At the heart of this career is a lifetime of caring,” she said of the noble profession.
This is followed by a session on the versatile gateways to diverse ‘Career Pathways in Psychology’ by Foo Pei Lynn, the head of DISTED College's School of Psychology.
She will similarly give attendees the lowdown on what the field is all about, what study options are available to those keen on pursuing it, what they can expect to learn, and what career opportunities await.
On Sunday, a segment on ‘The World of IT’ from 12.15pm to 1.45pm, chronicles its increasing omnipresence in the contemporary world.
The session ‘Walking The E: Technology In Our Modern Lifestyle’ by Sentral College Penang School of Computing and IT head Nel Ng promises to be an enlightening one.
She will chart the evolution of technology, show how so many things have evolved to become digital, and give her views on what the future could be like.
“I'll show how important and integral technology is, in our daily lives. It helps us with various activities and tasks, so we no longer have to do them manually,” Ng said.
She will also highlight the kind of IT expertise the industry needs in the coming four to five years as the nation approaches the year 2020.
The One Academy Penang head of Multimedia Design Leong Wai Khong will present a talk titled ‘Multimedia: Trendsetter for Now and The Future’.
In it, he will highlight the latest trends in the industry today, what is coming next, and what those considering going into this field should look out for.
“Things are getting more high-tech, and in the near future we can expect a shift to more off-screen concepts and inter-activity.
“Hence, the industry needs expertise that will enhance user experiences.
“Those who are adept in multimedia, programming and interactive applications should have an advantage,” he added.
Eligible students can also apply for The Star Education Fund during the fair.
It is offering 241 scholarships worth RM11.4mil with its 26 partners in education.
There will also be Career Interest Testing done by DISTED at the concourse level, where one can take a simple test to determine their areas of interest.
