SIAN Chye Tong Temple plans to go all out in its Chinese New Year celebrations.
It will be organising an annual month-long lighting of lanterns from tomorrow onwards at its premises at 395, Hye Keat Estate in Air Itam, Penang.
Its Youth Section chairman Loh Choon Teik said the committee took one month to put up the lanterns.
“This year, the hall of the temple is transformed into a fairyland with decorative materials. It will include red lanterns, buntings, artificial peonies and cherry blossoms as well as LED lighting,” he said yesterday.
On Feb 20, the temple will hold an open house for 100 underprivileged children.
The event which starts at 6.30pm will include tossing of yee sang and karaoke session.
On Feb 28, there will be a grand float procession in conjunction with Baby God’s Birthday (Sian Chye Phor Sat or Kumara Sudhana Bodhisattva).
The procession is to start at 7pm with a total of 30 temples taking part in the procession.
Highlight of the event is the unveiling of a big Buddhist bell specially ordered from Taiwan.
On March 2, the temple will hold its 85th anniversary dinner at the Moral Uplifting Society auditorium.
