ABOUT 40 needy children enjoyed an educational and inspiring morning at the Penang Science Cafe@Heritage.

During the interactive learning outing, the children took part in various fun experiments that sparked their interest in science.

The primary school pupils were given a tour of the cafe’s Garage while the secondary school students were engaged in other scientific activities at the site at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee in Weld Quay on Saturday.

Form Two student Sathiiswaran Shanmugam, 14, from Persatuan Kebajikan Shammah, was extremely interested in learning the basics of embedded systems by using simple codes to create interactive electronic projects.

“I like learning science. It is one of my favourite subjects.

“In the future I want to work as an electrical engineer,” he said.

With the assistance of volunteers from Keysight Technologies, the primary school pupils had an enjoyable time building aeroplanes.

They were then given a chance to fly them in the open yard of the cafe.

Year Six pupil Joey Eng, 12, from Pertubuhan Rumah Ru Yi, said: “I learn about the history of aeroplanes and these activities are fun because we get to do them by ourselves.”

Keysight Technologies corporate relations and communications director Jenny Foo said that the company’s main corporate social responsibility initiative was focusing on the growth of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).

“Keysight established the Penang Science Cafe which is the perfect place for the community to gather and turn their ideas into workable projects.

“Instead of having the children sitting in traditional classrooms to learn science, we want the younger generation to learn in a more interactive and creative manner.

“Penang Science Cafe is the ideal place for them to develop themselves and become valuable assets to our community,” she said.

At the event, Keysight Technologies presented RM12,000 to three charitable homes.

They were Pertubuhan Rumah Ru Yi, Pusat Jagaan Sinar Ceria and Persatuan Kebajikan Shammah.
