Sluice gate may be built to control floodwaters

The downpours on Dec 5 and 6 had caused Sungai Kayu Ara to overflow, affecting about 30 houses in three locations.

PETALING District Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) engineers are mulling over the building of a sluice gate as a solution to the flash floods at Kampung Chempaka New Village. The sluice gate is intended to prevent a backflow to the riverside houses parallel to Jalan PJU 1/4.

Assistant engineer Jamaludin Sharif, who inspected the riverside U-shape concrete culverts and water outlets, said based on initial observation and experience in other flood mitigation projects, the better option would be a sluice gate.
