TRIPDA, an online carpooling platform that connects drivers and passengers, is collaborating with Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) to raise funds to purchase two kidney dialysis machines for Yayasan Dialisis Pendidikan Akhlak Perak.
The “Move On 2015” Charity Night will be held tomorrow at Utar’s Dewan Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik in Kampar, Perak, from 7pm to 11.30pm.
Justine Goh Mei Xin from Utar’s Community Service Society said the event also aimed to raise public awareness on the prevention and treatment of kidney diseases.
“It was reported last year that some 2.5 million Malaysians had some form of kidney disease and about 30,000 kidney patients were on haemodialysis treatment.
“The number of kidney patients is expected to increase year-on-year, so there is a need for more dialysis machines,” said Goh.
Apart from raising funds, the event also aims to promote the carpooling culture.
To further encourage this, Tripda will donate RM5 to the fund for every car that drives into Utar’s campus for the event.
Drivers who offer a ride and passengers who sign up for the ride will also be rewarded with a RM5 McDonald’s cash voucher each.
Tripda Malaysia and Singapore managing director Victor Ang said the company was delighted to support the worthy cause.
He said it was also a good platform to promote carpooling.
“Carpooling does not only help reduce traffic congestion and parking problems, but also improves the environment by reducing carbon footprint,” said Ang.
