JOHOR BARU: AirAsia has unveiled its latest self-service feature which will further enhance the travel experience for its customers in reducing the check-in time.

The “self bag-drop” and “home tag” service are currently being tested at its southern hub in Senai International Airport, making Johor the first station to offer a complete self-service experience, made available starting April 20.

AirAsia Bhd chief executive officer Aireen Omar said they were continuously ensuring that the check-in process become more efficient and smooth to provide a seamless travel experience.

“With the introduction of this feature, it takes only up to three minutes on average to complete the whole check-in process compared to the queuing check-in process at the counter, that was up to five minutes per person.

“We chose Johor Baru as our first hub to deploy this feature due to the encouraging response from our guests towards this self-service options,” said Aireen during the launch on Wednesday.

She said that about 70% of its guests who are using their service at Senai International Airport most likely preferred to use the self-check in service options compared to the counter check-in provided.

“Travellers who opt for this service will be able to print their bag tags, self check-in at the kiosk and drop their luggage at an automated counter without any assistance.

“We are expanding our kiosk to the other airports as well and our next stations will be in Langkawi International airport, Don Mueang airport, Phuket as well as in some of the airports in Indonesia in the near future,” she said.

She added that as part of its continuous efforts in improving operational efficiency, the airlines allocates some 20% of its revenue every year to enhance its guest’s travel experience as well as operational efficiency.

Among the innovative solutions that have been introduced include WiFi on board, e-boarding pass and many more.

AirAsia is the first airline in Malaysia to introduce the “self bag-drop” option which was available for all its flights departing Johor Baru.

Both the “self bag-drop” and “home tag” features are available to be use from three hours (for international flights) and two hours (for domestic flights) up to an hour before the scheduled flight departures.
