THE Penang Hot Air Balloon Photography Contest 2015 attracted 977 entries and an IT engineer came out tops based on a public vote.

Contestants were required to take pictures of the Chinese New Year hot air balloon festival and Lim Kok Hooi, 36, won with 413 votes.

His photo was captioned ‘The best moment of the Hot Air Balloon night’.

He is now looking forward to using his Thai Airways return ticket to visit Chiang Mai.

Coming in second was 20-year-old Stephen Ng with a photo of a boy playing with a giant air bubble.

He captioned it ‘Despite the weather and disappointment, kids are still having fun’ and drew 406 votes.

His prize was a return flight ticket from Penang to Bangkok.

Third place went to 40-year-old Ch’ng Poh Lay who won exclusive travel luggage.

The graphic designer said she submitted two entries and her photo captioned ‘Good Morning! Penang Hot Air Balloon Festival’ won 312 votes.

Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan and Penang general manager of Thai Airways International Parinee Chanthrakupt gave away the prizes at Whiteaways Arcade in Beach Street.
