THE Sian Chye Tong Temple in Hye Keat Estate, Penang, has been transformed into a peony garden brightly lit up with colourful LED lights in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.
Besides the lighting, the Goddess of Mercy and Baby God statues are also beautifully adorned with decorative items.
Temple youth section chairman Loh Choon Teik said it took them about a month to put up the decorations to usher in the Year of the Goat.
“We decorated the temple with red lanterns, red bunting, artificial flowers and other decorative items.
“Names of sponsors were also put under the Peng Aun Teng (blessed lantern) for good health, luck and prosperity,” he said when contacted recently.
Loh added that it was very important to create a merry and joyful environment to spread the festive joy.
There will be an open house on Sunday at the temple from 7pm onwards.
Highlights include dragon dance, lion dance and drum performances as well as a karaoke session.
On March 13, a vegetarian lunch will be served in conjunction with the Baby God’s birthday.
