Trying his luck: Wong (second from left) spinning the ‘Steer of Fortune’.

LED by its managing director Henrik Juel Andersen, the Carlsberg Malaysia Chinese treasure ship navigated its way to Menara Star in Petaling Jaya to celebrate the coming of the new year with Star Publications (M) Bhd management and staff.

“2014 was a very turbulent year. We want to use this occasion to spread happiness and cheer to both readers and members of The Star,” said Andersen.

Also present at the event were Star Publications chief executive officer and group managing director Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai along with members of the senior management team.

Kicking off the celebration was a highly entertaining traditional lion dance performance.

Hilarity ensued when one of the lions pretended to offer a mandarin orange to the publication’s general counsel, Jean Soh, only to snap its mouth shut when she reached out for it.

Those surrounding her roared with laughter as she responded by smacking it on the nose for being cheeky.

After the lion dance, Andersen boarded the ship to hoist the sails, symbolising the beginning of the journey into the Year of the Goat.

An exchange of gifts also took place between Andersen and Wong while the Gods of Prosperity handed out ang pow packets to the crowd.

Tidbits and chilled beers were passed around as the crowd took photos with people dressed as the God of Prosperity, making the event more memorable and enjoyable.

The Star employees were also given the chance to hop on the vessel and try their luck at spinning Carlsberg’s “Steer of Fortune” to win prizes.

“This is our first media visit for the year,” said Carlsberg brand manager Koh Kian Mei.
