Two arrested, cables and meters seized

SIBU: Two utility companies here believe they have finally found an answer to the rampant theft of their cables and meters with the arrest of two persons.

A police team led by ASP Tega Bilong together with officers from Telekom had at about 11.25am on Tuesday made an inspection on a scrap metal premises at Lorong Ding Lik Kong 37 which has been operating illegaly.

From the investigation, they arrested the 37-year-old owner of the premises and his worker, aged 25.

The team also seized from them two gunny sacks of Sesco eletric cables and a gunny sack of water board meters and copper.

The police believed that the suspect had bought the items from individuals who had stolen them.

Both men have been detained for further investigation.

Separately, marine police yesterday seized two boxes of fireworks at the Sibu-Kapit Express wharf.

A team of four marine police had in an operation code named “Ops Lantai” saw the items on a cart and were about to be loaded onto a Kapit-bound expressboat.

When they asked around, nobody came forward to claim the items.
